  • James Holden's next release is a collaboration with Polish clarinetist Waclaw Zimpel called Long Weekend. The EP has its origins in a weekend off Zimpel had in London in 2018, where he visited Holden's studio with the idea to make a track a day, resulting in "Saturday" and "Sunday." Later that year, Holden invited Zimpel to be a guest at some dates on his Animal Spirits tour, and the two reconvened in the studio with guitarist Jakub Ziołek, who contributes to the other two tracks, "Tuesday" and "Wednesday." The label describes the tracks as leaning towards krautrock, as well as the free jazz-inspired styles of Holden's Animal Spirits project. Long Weekend will come via Holden's Border Community. Last year, Holden released his soundtrack to the film A Cambodian Spring, and just last month Zimpel released a synthesizer-heavy LP called Massive Oscillations. Listen to "Sunday."
