Out March 27th, it's the Ethio-jazz legend's second new album for the label, following 2018's Lala Belu.
Keyboardist, accordionist and composer-arranger Hailu Mergia will return to Awesome Tapes From Africa for a new LP in March.
Yene Mircha, which means "my choice" in Amharic, was produced by Mergia and composed by Mergia, Asnakesh Worku and Teddy Afro. The record features additional contributions from mesenqo player Setegn Atenaw, vocalist Tsehay Kassa and saxophone player Moges Habte, who was in the 1970s jazz and funk group Walias Band alongside Mergia.
This is the Ethio-jazz legend's second new album for the label, following 2018's Lala Belu LP—then his first in 15 years—and several reissues, one of which features in our Reissues Of The Decade list.
