- Scores of events will be held around the country to raise money for the ongoing crisis.
Electronic music promoters and artists from around Australia are pledging funds from upcoming events to the nationwide bushfire relief effort.
In an outpouring of support from the dance music community, dozens of parties from across the country will donate door fees or other financial help to the historic crisis. Melbourne alone has more than 15 gigs being hosted in January by the likes of Cool Room, Novel, Soothsayer, CC:DISCO and Wax'o Paradiso, Colour, The Operatives, Butter Sessions, Paper-Cuts, Hot Mess, Resist, House of Friends, Ilio Records, My Aeon, Mr. Chan's, BR1 Collective, Plastic Dreams, LOADING_ERROR, Lost In Ibiza, Feather Print Records and Mac DeMarco. London's Rhythm Section has just added a benefit gig at Radar on the 23rd with founder Bradley Zero, Prequel, Sophie McAlister and more.
At least a dozen nights across Sydney will be presented by Nectar, Heavenly, Ghostly, Champain Lyf, Kato, Picnic, Keep Sydney Open, Astral People, Subsonic Music, Mantra Collective, Freda's, Sweat It Out, Lovejoy, Nerve, Assembl, Plastic, Bodywork, Irregular Fit, Addition by Subtraction, Original Vibe and Fisher.
Sampology will play a seven-hour set at a party in Brisbane, a number of crews like Pickle, Canberra House Social and Sol. Sonik will get together in Canberra, while Outer Body, Co-Op, Perfect Strangers and The Bird have Perth shows lined up.
With plenty of summer still to come, the scale of the crisis continues to rise. The death toll around the country has now reached at least 28, while the World Wildlife Fund has estimated 1.25 billion animals have perished in the fire. Over 2000 homes have been lost and more than ten million hectares of bushland have burned. By comparison, the geographical area of England covers 13 million hectares.
Producers and labels have also been getting behind the cause. A growing collection of EPs and compilations have been released to raise money, while a number of labels are contributing funds from Bandcamp sales.
