  • Alton Miller has released the first 12-inch, Next Generation, on his new Music Institute label. The imprint looks back on the legendary club he cofounded with George Baker and Chez Damier, a formative if short-lived afterhours spot in downtown Detroit featuring the likes of Derrick May, D-Wynn and Kevin Saunderson as residents. While the club closed in 1989, Miller said the new label will preserve its original ethos. "The [Music Institute] was and has always been about the beauty, power and spirit of music and dance and how it brings people together," Miller told RA. "The cool kids are out there in the new generation just like we were, looking and searching for music and ways to express themselves. The label aims to fill that void and keep that spirit alive."
