  • The Orb will release a new album on Cooking Vinyl next year. Alex Paterson's 17th album, Abolition Of The Royal Familia, is meant to act as a pair with 2018's No Sounds Are Out Of Bounds. The new LP sees Paterson team up with Michael Rendall, who was previously a member of his touring band and a studio engineer, as his main writing partner. Youth, Roger Eno, Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy (of Gong and System 7), David Harrow (of On-U Sound) and more feature on the record. "Hawk Kings" is a tribute to the late cosmologist Stephen Hawking, who Patterson once met at a lecture; he was later told Hawking used to listen to The Orb. Meanwhile, "Slave Till U Die No Matter What U Buy" is a "cosmic overhaul" of Jello Biafra's (of the Dead Kennedys) "Stay In Your Home." Paterson will also tour the UK in May 2020, with support from Mad Professor and Don Letts. Listen to "Pervitin - Empire Culling & The Hemlock Stone Version."
