  • Tottenham club The Cause will stay open beyond January 2020 after it was granted an extension by Haringey Council. The venue, which has raised more than £50,000 for charity since opening in April 2018, was previously set to close on New Year's Eve to make way for property developers. The project has now been delayed for an unspecified period. In addition, the club has had a new license approved, which means it'll stay open longer on Wednesdays (3 AM), Thursdays (4 AM) and weekends (6 AM). During bank holidays, it has the option to run 24-hour parties. The team applied for the new license in April 2019. "It feels like I have been pranked," says The Cause cofounder Stuart Glen. "Styx (a nightclub opposite) closed last NYE and has since been bulldozed. The petrol station next door has been demolished. We see cranes every day. A few weeks ago, we didn't think we had any options, now we're paying rent on two spaces and have another possibility in the pipeline. It's like a game of musical clubs and we literally have no clue what 2020 holds for us." The "possibility in the pipeline" is an unnamed venue not far from The Cause that the team will be trialling on New Year's Eve, with a hope to securing a long-term license. The new space was discovered by a 55-year-old regular called Nikolai, who works in a chocolate factory opposite. Upcoming events at The Cause include drum & bass fundraiser Jungle Jam, Tribes with Pangaea and Three Decades Of London House. The lineup for New Year's Eve will remain undisclosed, though UK festival Freerotation has confirmed its involvement. Tickets to select parties are available here on RA.
