A Russian translation of techno history book Der Klang Der Familie is being published by Shoom.
The new edition marks the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and brings Sven Von Thülen and Felix Denk's oral history to Russian for the first time.
The first 300 copies of the book come with a fragrance based on the smell of the original Tresor club. The olfactory lab Holynose worked with original Tresor clubbers and founder Dimitri Hegemann to synthesise the scent, which recreates the clubs' signature bank vault odour rather than the smell of ravers. The publisher also plans to release previously unheard mixes from two of the books' protagonists, DJs Clé and Paul van Dyk.
Der Klang Der Familie tells the story of how techno flourished in the political vacuum following the Mauerfall through the words of the DJs, club owners and ravers who experienced it. While it chronicles historically significant clubs like UFO, E-Werk and Tresor, the Detroit-Berlin axis and Berlin's Summer Of Love, the book also explores forces that compromised the scene, touching on everything from tobacco-sponsored raves, inter-scene violence and the impact of HIV/AIDS.
An English translation was released five years ago.
