  • Zak Khutoretsky, AKA DVS1, has launched a new initiative called Support Organize Sustain (S.O.S.). S.O.S. was founded in response to the numerous challenges besetting the electronic music community, from its steady transformation into a professionalised, careerist industry to antiquated drugs policies and the negative effects of smartphones. The initiative is being launched with a day of talks and discussion on October 18th at Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam, which will later be archived online. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Featuring panels with titles like "Looking to the Future: Building a Scene Versus Growing an Industry" and "Putting the Art in Artist: Finding and maintaining your artistic voice," the event features DJs (Juliana Huxtable, Josey Rebelle, DJ Stingray), promoters and club owners (Hot Mass, Bassiani, Underclub) along with academics, activists and writers. You can see the speaker and topic list in more detail on the S.O.S. website. According to the group's website, S.O.S.'s "contributors" are Khutoretsky, Seva Granik, Shawn Reynaldo, Sebastian Weiss and Daniela Cia. S.O.S. also says it's an independently funded and organised operation.
