  • Prince's 1982 album 1999 is the subject of a lavish new box set. The set will come as a five-CD, ten-LP box (plus DVD) that features a remastered version of the original album plus a collection of 12-inch mixes, 7-inch edits and other promo-only releases. There are also 35 unreleased tracks from the Prince vaults, along with a 1982 live recording from Detroit and a concert film of another 1982 show in Houston. All in all, it features every piece of music that Prince released that year, while the bonus material was recorded between 1981 and 1983. At the time, 1999 was Prince's most successful album and his major commercial breakthrough, featuring hits like the title track, "Little Red Corvette," "Delirious" and "Lady Cab Driver." The vault tracks include demos, alternate versions and early recordings of later songs like "Irresistible Bitch" and "Feel U Up." The reissue is available in three versions: one that comprises only the remastered 1999 in both CD and vinyl formats, one that features select bonus material over two CDs and four LPs and one that includes all five CDs, ten LPs and DVD. It's due out on November 29th. The 1999 box set is the latest in a series of compilations and retrospectives from the late artist's estate, and also follows the release of all of his albums onto streaming platforms. For the full tracklist, check out the official Prince website. Watch the video for "Little Red Corvette."
The Prince Estate will release 1999: Remastered And Expanded Edition on November 29th, 2019.
