Philipp Gorbachev is releasing his next album in October.
KOLOKOL, which translates to "the bell," features the sounds of Orthodox church bells inspired by his time becoming a bellringer in the wake of the Russian producer's last album, Unlock The Box. This LP was conceived as an Eastern answer to Floorplan's style of gospel dance music, with bells from 40 different belfries played by hand and recorded live, then resampled and reused. As usual, it'll come out on his PG TUNE label. The bell-focused music also makes up a new live show that Gorbachev debuted in Moscow this past May.
"To Western listeners, perhaps the values of the Russian Orthodox church seem at odds with the profoundly progressive attitude of techno and rave culture," says Gorbachev. "However, I have observed many interesting changes and contradictions, not only on the Russian club underground, but within the church itself. My bell-master in Russia could perhaps be described as something of a 'spiritual punk,' and it was under his guidance that I learned to master the potential within the acoustics of the church, and develop a less traditional but equally inspiring way of playing."
