- Wrecked is out on Relapse Records in October.
Kevin Martin (AKA The Bug) and Justin Broadrick will release a new Zonal album, Wrecked, on Relapse Records this October.
The collaboration between Martin and Godflesh man Justin Broadrick stretches all the way back to 1991, when they released their first album as Techno Animal, a noisy hip-hop-inflected duo that would collaborate with Beastie Boys and El-P, among others.
The Zonal project sees the two musical extremists united once again and working closely with Philadelphia artist Moor Mother, with whom they performed live at the Roadburn and Unsound festivals. Camae Ayewa features on six tracks on Wrecked, which sees the trio indulge in a "brutal ongoing obsession with beats, bass, dub, drone, noise and riff," says the label, who indicate the LP "could easily appeal to open minded hip-hop heads, metalheads, electronica addicts and general non-conformists across the board."
Wrecked follows an Adult Swim single from Moor Mother x Zonal called "On The Range," as well as a two-track Zonal EP, Cage Version / No Version, released on Relapse earlier in 2019. Martin has released an ambient album and a collaboration with Burial this year, while Broadrick recently put out a JK Flesh EP on The Bug's Pressure imprint.
