Hamburg's Golden Pudel to open new non-clubbing cultural space, Barboncino Zwölphi

- Hamburg club Golden Pudel is opening a new non-clubbing space on its upper floor. The space, named Barboncino Zwölphi ("Barboncino" is Italian for "Zwergpudel"—"toy poodle"), will open for a few days in July before officially launching in August. Running only during the day, it'll host readings, concerts, workshops and other cultural and political activities, Die Welt reports, with a daily lunch menu cooked by the local refugee charity Chickpeace. The space itself was designed with help from architect Jesko Fezer, who works at University Of Fine Arts Hamburg, and his students. In late 2018, Golden Pudel's future was secured after several tumultuous years. In 2016, the club nearly burnt down in a fire, while closure due to real-estate investments and city planning was a constant threat. The venue is now run by the Golden Pudel Foundation, which gives it protection from the private property market. Golden Pudel's main dance floor has plenty of shows scheduled for the next few months, including a party tonight with Credit 00 and a Smallville event on August 1st.
