David Attenborough, PRS Foundations and Songlines are launching a remix competition on the broadcast legend's 93rd birthday.
The competition is soliciting edits of "Gender Wayang" from Attenborough's 2018 release My Field Recordings From Across The Planet. The three-minute recording is from Attenborough's 1956 trip to Indonesia and features traditional gamelan music from Bali played on two metallophones and a set of drums.
It appears as if none of the proceeds will go to the original artists on the field recordings or their estates. The competition's terms and conditions state that "all revenues generated from additional sub-licensing will be shared equally between the music creator, BBC Worldwide and Sir David Attenborough's affiliated charity Fauna & Flora International."
Matthew Herbert, Gilles Peterson, Hannah Peel, Ghostpoet, Cerys Matthews and Attenborough himself will serve as judges and select the six best tracks to put to a public vote. The winner will be announced on November 30th at Hackney venue EartH.
