  • Jas Shaw, one-half of Simian Mobile Disco, is releasing a new solo album called The Exquisite Cops. "I've made loads of techno and am having a clearout," the UK artist recently wrote on Twitter. "I'm going to put them on Bandcamp and Spotify every few weeks until the folder is empty." Shaw plans to release two tracks at a time, starting with last week's "Science And Luck" and "I Dream Of Meanie." Over the course of the year, he'll put out more than 20. In 2018, Shaw was diagnosed with a rare disease, AL amyloidosis, which led Simian Mobile Disco to cancel their US tour. One of the first tracks off The Exquisite Cops, "Science And Luck," addresses his condition. Shaw explains via Bandcamp: "When I got ill last year with a condition that’s managed with science but who's trajectory seems to be largely defined by luck this idea took on a new layer of meaning for me so perhaps it’s fitting that the track that got lumped with this name is the first out of the folder of tunes that have largely been done while receiving science, hoping for luck and daydreaming of clubs but not getting to go into them." Listen to "Science And Luck" and "I Dream Of Meanie."
