Running Back has announced four Feater remix EPs preceding the release of the Viennese artist's Socialo Blanco album.
Running Back says Socialo Blanco, which comes out May 3rd, "sounds like a Music From Memory reissue, looks like a Growing Bin Records discovery and feels like a flea-market-hippie-uncle-record-collection find."
Feater is the project of Daniel Meuzard. He made the record using the EMS Synthi A and recorded straight-to-tape with no MIDI, sync or computer. Vocalist Vilja Larjosto and Ghanaian percussionist Eric Owusu also appear on Socialo Blanco.
Leading up to the release, Gerd Janson's label will put out four separate remix EPs focusing on Feater's "Time Million" track, which features Larjosto's vocals. Pépé Bradock and Ricardo Villalobos turn in vocal mixes for the first EP, with a Villalobos dub and "bonus bits" from Pépé Bradock comprising the second. The third remix 12-inch features two versions from Pangaea, a remix from Running Back's man-of-the-hour Krystal Klear, and a version from Sam Irl and Feater himself—the "Time Billion" dub. The final piece in the series is a 10-inch featuring four versions of "Time Million" by Blood Shanti, the Falasha Recordings boss and brother of UK sound system legend Aba Shanti. Running Back says Shanti's mixes "sound as good as any slice of British reggae ever made."
