The organisers behind La Cheetah Club have a new, larger venue on Nelson Mandela Place, which Moodymann will help launch next month.
A new club called Room 2 will open in Glasgow on March 1st.
The venue is run by the crew behind La Cheetah Club on Queen Street. Room 2, situated a ten-minute walk away on Nelson Mandela Place, will be a larger space with a bigger emphasis on stage production and gig events. The club promises a "state-of-the-art soundsystem alongside a fully modular stage and lighting setup (including a large customisable LED screen)," and goes on to describe itself as "a basement venue kitted out with top-end sound and lighting, with a focus on diverse programming and nurturing its community." The space was once a popular club called Chambre 69, which closed in 2013 after an 18-month run.
The programme for Room 2's first month has a strong club focus with a mix of local and international talent. JD Twitch, Sofay, Ribeka and The Burrell Connection will DJ at the club's launch night on Friday, March 1st. Moodymann will play the next evening alongside La Cheetah Club residents Dom D'Sylva and Wardy. Subsequent weekends will see performances from Loefah, NAKED, The Hacker and Levon Vincent. There will also be club nights hosted by VAJ Power, Magic City and Animal Farm.
Room 2 will be the second new club to open in Glasgow in as many months. 500 GWR just held its launch party on February 1st.
