  • Liam Blackburn, AKA Ancestral Voices, is back on Horo with a new album. Navagraha takes its title from a Sanskrit word that refers to the "nine celestial bodies" in Hindu cosmology, relating to the vibrations of each planet as well as human bodies. The album uses this concept in tandem with Swiss mathematician Hans Cousto's "cosmic octave" law, which associates certain frequencies with different kinds of natural phenomena. Blackburn devised a custom tuning system for Navagraha, with each track built around each planet's "fundamental frequency," using a "mixture of Ptolemaic, Pythagorean and other 'alternate' harmonic scales that can create a profound effect on the consciousness of the listener," according to the press release. It's Blackburn's third album as Ancestral Voices, and follows last year's Mycelia release, which came via his own label, The Fifth Kingdom. Listen to album cut "Prithvi."
