Moodymann shares video of confrontation with armed police, police hold press conference on incident

  • Moodymann has shared a video of a standoff with armed police on Instagram. Kenny Dixon Jr. uploaded the video on Wednesday afternoon before deleting it within hours. As The Detroit Metro-Times reports, in the video, Dixon Jr. is in his car surrounded by police pointing assault rifles at him and demanding he exit the vehicle and show proof of ownership. The post says that they accused him of breaking-and-entering on his own property, and that there were nine police officers around his car. The officers appear to be from the Highland Park, Michigan police force. Moodymann has since removed the video from his Instagram, but you can see screenshots of it below.
    Update: Metro-Times has released a statement from the Highland Park Police Department:
    On Saturday while conducting a proactive patrol regarding possible illegal scraping [sic], HPPD officers encountered Mr. Dixon. During the encounter, Mr. Dixon did not produce personal ID nor proof of ownership of the property and was subsequently arrested and conveyed to HPPD. Further investigation confirmed ownership, and Mr. Dixon was released and issued several citations regarding this incident. Mr. Dixon has since met with HPPD, and this matter was resolved to the satisfaction of Mr. Dixon.
    Today, the City Of Highland Park also held a press conference on the incident in which a representative of the city shared police body camera footage of Dixon Jr.'s arrest. In the video, an officer can be seen approaching Dixon Jr.'s car before other police sweep in on the driver's side. The situation escalates quickly.
