  • KORG is releasing an expanded version of the minilogue synthesiser. The original four-voice polyphonic minilogue has been one of KORG's most successful products in recent years, combining versatile analogue oscillators with a powerful sequencer and competitive $500 price tag. The new xd version builds on this template, adding a third, digital oscillator for expanding your palette beyond the possibilities of analogue synthesis. The third oscillator offers a choice of noise sources for building percussion sounds and VPM synthesis for producing metallic, complex overtones, or you can load up to 16 of your own waveforms. There's also a 32-bit DSP effects engine for adding reverb, delay, modulation effects or your own custom algorithms to your sound. Like KORG's flagship prologue synth, the minilogue xd utilises the SDK (Software Development Kit), which allows users to build their own oscillators and effects. The build is rounded out with a polyphonic 16-step sequencer, which means you can sequence chord progressions, a joystick for controlling modulation, four voice modes and microtonal tuning. The back panel now sports a stereo output and two CV ins for connecting to modular synthesisers. Expect the minilogue xd to arrive in winter 2019 for $649.99. The announcement coincided with KORG revealing two new models in its Volca range. Watch a promo video for the minilogue xd.
