Cherushii and Maria Minerva's S?/?T EP will come out on 100% Silk May 15th.
LA-via-Tallin artist Maria Minerva planned an eight-show tour of the US in 2013, the label explains, but having just arrived in the states without a car or driver's license, she needed a traveling companion with these necessities. Her Silk labelmate Cherushii, real name Chelsea Faith Dolan, was up for it, and "the two covered over 3000 miles together, performing in bars and towns not known for leftfield electronic patronage (i.e. VFW halls in Missoula, Montana). Though attendance was occasionally minimal they bonded deeply, in ways specific to arduous American DIY touring."
Minerva and Dolan remained close over the years, sharing bills and collaborating on live shows. They planned to complete a collaborative record, plans which were cut short by the Ghost Ship fire in Oakland, where 36 people, including Dolan died. Before the fire, Minerva and Dolan had written, recorded and mixed "the better part of" six songs. Since then, these tracks have been finished with the assistance of David Last, Adam Gunther and Brian Foote (AKA Leech). 100% Silk describes S/T as "the sound of true union, Faith's divine dance floor DNA threaded through Minerva's chic pop hooks, rhythmic and revelatory, the best of both beautiful worlds." Leech closes out the collection with a stripped-down edit of the opener, "A Day Without You."
Los Angeles-based 100% Silk will put out another 12-inch in February, Midnight, from Portland producer Body San, real name Brandon Knocke. It follows his 2015 tape for Silk, Corporate Interiors, as well as releases for 1080p and Lo Recordings.
