  • Sugar Factory has filed for bankruptcy, shuttering immediately. The Amsterdam venue announced the move on its website and social media today. "The organization has done everything to proceed with their club shows and concerts, but the resources proved insufficient," Sugar Factory's team wrote on Facebook. "Closing the doors of the venue is the only possibility at this point, which is of course a very painful statement for everyone involved." Sugar Factory's closure affects 50 employees and freelance workers. All shows have been cancelled, and the status of refunds is still unclear. "Obviously the organization will do everything possible to look for solutions," the club's team said. The 750-capacity venue opened nearly 14 years ago as a live music space and underwent renovations in 2012. Over the years, the club has hosted the likes of J. Dilla, Frankie Knuckles, Honey Dijon, Dixon, Gregory Porter, Âme, Kerri Chandler and many more. In October, the club suffered a "small fire," though it got the all-clear to reopen within a day.
