Output will close after its last event on January 1st, 2019.
The Brooklyn nightclub posted a statement to social media today confirming the closure. "This sudden turn of events may seem shocking to many, but for those of us watching from the inside, we have seen the writing on the wall for some time," management writes. "A confluence of factors contributed to the club's misfortune: rapidly shifting social trends, unfavorable market conditions and weakening financial outlooks coincided with the simultaneous emergence of multiple existential challenges unique to the club's circumstances."
Output opened in 2013, and at the time it was one of the only clubs in Brooklyn dedicated to house and techno. Their last party will take place on New Year's Eve with their third annual all-night set from John Digweed.
The storied Manhattan house and techno club Cielo, which shares the same owner, will also close early in the new year. Rumors about Cielo shuttering had been circulating on social media for a few weeks, but owner Nicolas Matar confirmed it to Resident Advisor today, saying that the two closures are unrelated. The Meatpacking District spot, which has been open for 15 years, counts Louie Vega among its resident DJs.
