  • DJ Rashad's estate has signed an exclusive publishing deal with Waxploitation Records. The agreement with the Los Angeles label—which was founded in the mid-'90s and has released music from the likes of Danger Mouse, Gnarls Barkley, Black Moth Super Rainbow and MF Doom—was announced today by founder Jeff Antebi. "Seeing where hip-hop and electronic music, and even pop music, has evolved in the last few years, DJ Rashad's presence is strongly felt, and he's dearly missed," he said. "We're hoping to keep his legacy thriving for many years to come." Rashad, who helped create and drive the footwork genre in his native Chicago, died in 2014. Much of the music released during his lifetime came via the UK labels Hyperdub and Planet Mu, with posthumous releases coming through Teklife, Southern Belle and Hyperdub. There's no word yet on what new releases might come out of the Waxploitation deal. Listen to DJ Rashad's "Let U No."
