- Benefits from the sale of the 'world's largest analog drum machine collection' will benefit the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
Moby will sell almost 200 drum machines from his collection through online gear and record marketplace Reverb.
The sale, which starts next Thursday, October 11th, draws from Moby's private collection. "I've always been a little obsessed with drum machines," Moby writes on the sale. "In fact, I've always been a lot obsessed with drum machines. Over the years, I presumptuously believe that I have come up with the largest collection of analog drum machines in the world."
The sale includes pieces like the Roland TR-909 he bought at New York's Rogue Music in the '90s, as well as extremely rare machines like two Chamberlin Rhythmates, which were manufactured in an edition of around 10 in 1949. He'll also be selling an MXR Drum Computer, about a dozen Univox drum machines and the '50s-era Wurlitzer Side Man, a standing drum machine with a built-in speaker.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. The Los Angeles-based artist has previously partnered with Reverb to sell his synths and records for charity.
Moby's latest album, Everything Was Beautiful, And Nothing Hurt, came out in March.
