- The first record on the South African artist's label, Believing, comes out next month.
Portable is starting up a new label and releasing an EP in November.
Alan Abrahams, who also performs as Bodycode, will release Believing to kick off the new imprint, Khoikhoi Records, which the South African artist says is named after his ancestors. According to press materials, "The name comes from the first tribe who lived in pre-colonial South Africa, where [Portable] comes from, and roughly translate into 'the first men.'"
Portable wants the four-track EP to be a "positive start" to the label, as Believing looks back to his "modest" upbringing in South Africa to send a "warm message of hope and perseverance." Portable has previously released on !K7 (2016's Alan Abrahams album), Rhythm Cult (2015's Lovers & Players), Perlon (2014's Sportable) and more. Abrahams also started a label, Süd Electronic, in 2002 with Lerato Khathi, AKA Lakuti.
