  • Mkwaju Ensemble's Mkwaju will be given an official reissue by We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records in November. The record originally came out in 1981 via the venerable Japanese imprint Better Days and documents the collaboration between Midori Takada's percussion ensemble and Joe Hisaishi, who would go on to compose most of Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli anime soundtracks and 100 other film scores. It's the first Midori Takada record as well as Hisaishi's first LP production credit; other personnel includes Yoji Sadanari, Hideki Matsutake, Junko Arase and Pecker. The reissue was sourced from the original masters and will come as a vinyl LP cut at Emil Berliner Studios or a CD digipak. We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want also handled the reissue of Mkwaju Ensemble's other 1981 full-length, Ki-Motion. The Swiss label also reissued Takada's famed 1983 album, Through The Looking Glass, and her collaboration with Masahiko Satoh, Lunar Cruise. Takada recently collaborated with Lafawndah on her first new composition in 20 years. Check out a megamix of tunes off Mkwaju.
