  • London club Phonox will have a new resident next month. Esa will be taking over Saturday nights at the Brixton club from current resident HAAi, who leaves her post at the end of September after two years. Esa, full name Esa Williams, began his musical career in Cape Town, South Africa, then got involved in the Glasgow house and techno scene before moving to London. He is the bandleader for Ghanian dance-rap artist Yaw Atta-Owusu, AKA Ata Kak, and last year, Dekmantel released his debut EP, Aweh. Esa has also released a few records on Highlife, including 2014's Highlife Vol. 3 and two 2015 splits with Auntie Flo in the Highlife World Series, Uganda and Cuba. "As my residency at Phonox in Brixton draws closer and closer, I'm filled with so much excitement, and after a very busy summer with many memorable moments, I look forward to sharing some of these experiences as I start preparing my six-hour musical journeys," Esa says. "This opportunity to build and create a story weekly is something I've never envisaged, but I now have the chance to really showcase my passion and skills, connect with people in an intimate environment and work alongside some talented DJs and musicians and the Phonox family." Esa's first Saturday night as Phonox resident is October 6th. Learn more about what Esa plans to bring to the Brixton club.
