- The Dalston space announced today that it will be closing its doors after eight years.
Dalston spot The Alibi is closing after eight years on Kingsland Road.
The East London bar announced the news in a Facebook post today, saying, "It's been one of the hardest decisions we've ever had to make." The team, which also runs Seven Sisters club Five Miles, continues: "We swore to ourselves that we'd never, ever close by choice. Ever. The ethos of The Alibi was always to be a free entry bar that forever reflected the neighbourhood we were in. We've lived through the hipsters of 2010, the 18 year olds in 2012, the deep v shirts of 2014, the griminess of 2016. It was always important to us that the doors stayed open. But it feels like the right time to let go of The Alibi."
Equipped with a Void soundsystem, The Alibi often hosted DJ nights and label parties. This Friday, the venue is hosting a fundraiser for Positive East, which aims to help people with HIV and provides testing and support group services.
It's been a difficult month for London's music spots. Just last week, Dalston record store Kristina Records announced it will also be leaving Kingsland Road, while Camden's The Lock Tavern announced it'd be closing at the end of the month. Shoreditch venue The Red Gallery closed for good in July.
