  • A new 24-hour venue called FOLD is opening in East London this month. FOLD, run by Shapes Collective, sits above a print factory on an industrial property between Canning Town and Star Lane. With a 24-hour license in hand and a no-photos policy in effect, the space's main feature is a 600-capacity dance floor. A second room is also due to open later this year. Venue cofounder Lasha Jorjoliani, AKA Voicedrone, says the 24-hour sessions will generally take place on Saturdays, while Friday-night parties go "till late" and midweek events run until 3 AM. He says to "expect extended set times, obscure back-to-backs and a generally more expansive pallet of sounds over the course of one event." Fellow cofounder Seb Glover hopes FOLD will be a haven for artists and fans alike: "We strive to do things differently in London, cultivating a more continental approach, creating a place where you can spend extended periods or coming and going as you please... Our focus is creating a safe space that is disconnected from the intense pressures of London life, that allows freedom of expression, positivity and inspiration to take form." In addition to its event space, the complex has five purpose-built, 24-hour music studios which will be available for hire "by appointment of the FOLD crew," according to today's announcement. Also in the works is a membership scheme which will include access to other Shapes Collective venues. FOLD's first party is set for Saturday, August 18th. Joining the venue's team for opening night will be the likes of REVIVEHER, Make Me, Test Pressing, Dimensions and EarToGround. An exact lineup is still to be announced. The FOLD team also says that label showcases for Ilian Tape, Clone and Pinkman are in the works. See a preview of the new space.
