  • RVNG Intl.'s intergenerational FRKWYS series will return after a two-year break with Nue, an album produced by drone artist Tashi Wada, his father Yoshi Wada and a group of collaborators. For years, Tashi Wada performed alongside his father, a composer and bagpipe player who was part of the '60s and '70s experimental arts group Fluxus. However, the pair have rarely worked together in the studio. For Nue, they teamed up with what RVNG describes as "a group of close friends and extended family," which includes Julia Holter, producer Cole MGN, and percussionist Corey Fogel. Simone Forti, Jessika Kenney and Laura Steenberge also appear as guest vocalists. The album is credited to Tashi Wada with Yoshi Wada and Friends. Nue is said to highlight Tashi Wada's "abiding interest in duality and the unknown." The title comes from the name of a mythical Japanese chimera and the French word for naked. Tashi Wada describes the collaborative project: "My desire was to create something both old and new sounding—ancient and futuristic—and ultimately something of its own world and other. Nue is a vision, an endless night of dreams, and a personal history of sorts, full of joys and demons." This album is the 14th release for FRKWYS, RVNG's outlet for intergenerational collaboration, and is due out in September. The last series release was Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and Suzanne Ciani's Sunergy LP back in 2016. Watch a video for Nue track "Fanfare," directed by Jana Papenbroock.
