  • A new Midori Takada composition, titled Le Renard Bleu, is coming out next month on !K7. Le Renard Bleu will be the first new music in nearly two decades for Takada, a Japanese ambient and minimal artist who has drawn renewed attention with reissues of her acclaimed 1983 LP Through The Looking Glass and other works, as well as a stream of recent international performances. Drawing inspiration from a folk tale about a mystical blue fox, Takada originally composed the piece herself in March, before developing it further with help from experimental pop artist and Warp Records affiliate Lafawndah for the lyrics in Tokyo. French fashion and arts house KENZO then used it as an inspiration, and a soundtrack, for a film of the same name, directed by Partel Oliva, that features a performance from the two musicians and was also recorded in Tokyo. Los Angeles krump dancer Qwenga also stars in the film. KENZO has a history of distributing artistic films with carefully curated soundtracks. Chino Amobi's music was featured in the house's 2017 film directed by Akinola Davies Jr, titled Gidi Gidi Bu Ugwu Eze (Unity Is Strength). KENZO's 2016 film, World, was directed by Spike Jonze, features music by Sam Spiegel, Ape Drums and Assassin and stars Margaret Qualley. Le Renard Bleu premieres today. Watch it below before !K7 gives the music a white-label release in late August.
