- The reissued records beat Ryan Adams and Tracy Chapman in the online retailer's report of sales and collection info for the first three months of 2018.
Discogs has published its first quarterly report.
The findings, drawn from nearly 360,000 user submissions, show a strong showing for dance music records among the rock, pop and hip-hop categories. Its bestselling releases of the first three months were 2017 reissues of full-lengths by the short-lived UK electro act Scopex and the Japanese saxophonist Yasuaki Shimizu. These albums beat LPs by Ryan Adams, Gorillaz and Tracy Chapman, and topped a list also featuring Prince, Daft Punk and the evergreen Andrés EP, New For U.
In the most expensive records category, The Beatles' Love Me Do topped the list at £11,250.00, with the Pet Shop Boys' 2009 Yes boxset (£5,256.51) and Prince's Black Album (£3,675.88) also on the list. Kendrick Lamar's DAMN was the most collected new release of the year so far (followed by a recent reissue of Moby's 1999 LP, Play), and The Dark Side Of The Moon was the most collected "catalogue release." There were three other Pink Floyd albums in the top 20.
A BBC report published today also showed that Discogs users spent £147 million last year. In the online retailer's 2017 end-year report, Midori Takada's Through The Looking Glass and The Other People Place's Lifestyles Of The Laptop Café were among the bestselling records.
