A new album from Belgian experimental techno producer Yves De Mey will land on Sidney & Suleiman's Latency label this week.
Bleak Comfort, coming out this Thursday on double-vinyl and digital formats, marks De Mey's debut on Latency, who describe it as "an album about absence, malfunction and disorientation" that "deconstructs regular club music recipes to highlight some of its key elements in a transformative way."
Its eight tracks, recorded in Antwerp in 2016 and 2017, include both floor-friendly material and more abstract fare, all with the artist's usual focus on detailed sound design. The front cover features a photograph of a work by French sculptor Jean-Marie Appriou titled Raspberries 3, as seen at a 2016 exhibition in Brussels.
We last heard De Mey in LP mode on 2017's Neuroclaps, credited to his Grey Branches alias and released via Inner Surface Music. He also contributed to a new Houndstooth compilation.
