  • Portable has announced a couple new releases for early 2018. Alan Abrahams will first put out a record as part of his band RANGEr, also featuring singer and percussionist ZindA and bassist KUB. RANGEr, pictured here, made their live premiere in London last November, and now the group's self-titled debut release is set to land later this month on Waella's Choice. The UK label describes Portable Presents RANGEr as a "mélange of jazz, soul and electronic and one of Abraham's most explicit nods to his South African roots." It has South African a capella group Korus credited on three tracks, along with contributions from two more musicians, named Stan (bass) and Chisneg (saxophone). RANGEr will tour in support of the record, playing live shows accompanied by a specially commissioned abstract film. Next will be a Portable EP for Dial Records called Life Without Notifications. Abrahams appeared on Dial back in 2011, remixing a cut from Efdemin, but the upcoming 12-inch marks his first solo record for the Hamburg imprint. It's due out in March. Abrahams has also begun to host a monthly radio show on Rinse FM, which is broadcast on first Thursdays from 6 PM to 8 PM CET. Next month's segment (on February 1st) will include a RANGEr live performance and a guest appearance from fellow South African artist Fred Buddah.
