  • Robert Henke today shared details for From Within..., a new collaborative project "for large ensemble, computer-generated sound and light" which will have its world premiere in Paris in June 2018. From Within... might be the most ambitious performance endeavor Henke, the influential artist and producer also known as Monolake, has been involved in to date. It sees him working with Marko Nikodijevic, a Serbian composer whose pursuits have included a focus on digital technology, and Ensemble intercontemporain, the world-renowned new music ensemble based in Paris. The project is also supported by IRCAM, a French institute dedicated to bringing together music and scientific innovation, and d&b audiotechnik. An announcement on Henke's website says the project "[combines] influences from contemporary works for ensemble with the rich, raw and precise powers of current computer music," while featuring LED lighting arrangements. The post goes on: "We merge electronic sounds and the rich world of acoustic instruments into one beautiful, inseparable, complete and monolithic unity... Light and movement are treated with the same amount of fine-grained detail and precision as the sonic part of the composition." The first From Within... concert will take place at Paris's Cité de la Musique on Friday, June 8th, as part of IRCAM's ManiFeste 2018 festival. Attendees will be able to meet both Henke and Nikodijevic before the performance. Henke has long been involved in audiovisual undertakings. The past few years have seen him take his Lumière laser show on tour around the globe, and other recent efforts include laser programming for a London performance of Karl Heinz Stockhausen's composition Cosmic Pulses.
