- Noton will release Live 2002, the only known recording of the three experimental artists performing together, in January.
A 15 year-old live recording of Mika Vainio, Ryoji Ikeda and Alva Noto, AKA Carsten Nicolai, is on the way via Nicolai's Noton label.
Live 2002 captures Mika Vainio + Ryoji Ikeda + Alva Noto, as the veritable super-group of experimental artists is credited, performing in Newcastle in September 2002. It's apparently the only known recording of the trio in action together, according to Boomkat, though Nicolai shares connections with each of the two artists through other releases on Raster-Noton (which underwent a reorganization this year). He worked alongside Vainio, who died earlier this year, using the name Ø + Noto, and he's collaborated with Ikeda as Cyclo. The 45-minute set, split into 11 numbered movements, is due for January release.
