- It's the second club planned for the Midtown location this year, following the announcement of FREQ NYC, which fell through.
Nightlife entrepreneur Glenn Raymond has announced plans to build a new club at 618 W. 46th Street in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood.
The proposal for this five-story, 36,000 square-foot venue includes an art gallery as well as a "museum of nightlife" and a "dance music hall of fame," Raymond says. At this point he's still waiting to submit floor plans in order to get building permits and the idea is to open some time in 2018. When asked for a run-down of the bookings he said it'll be "geared towards the underground."
It's the second club proposed this year for the Midtown space, following FREQ NYC, which was pitched by Space Ibiza New York's former co-owner Antonio Piacquadio. Their application was approved by the Midtown community board in June, and it's not clear why the plan never got off the ground. Before that it was the site of Pacha NYC, and originally it housed the venerable Sound Factory.
When asked about his experience in nightlife, Raymond explained: "My experience is as a fan of the music first and foremost... I have DJ'd and thrown parties... I guess you can say Mekka is owned by a fan who wants the fans to have fun."
