  • Demdike Stare's DDS label is putting out a record from Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe tomorrow called Levitation Praxis Pt 4. Last year saw Lowe—the US experimental producer also known as Lichens—commissioned by New York's Museum of Arts and Design to contribute to a Harry Bertoia exhibition. Bertoia, an Italian-born artist who died in 1978, was known for both his furniture design and what he called his Sonambient sound sculptures—sets of metal rods, wires and gongs that produce resonant sounds when touched—which he housed in a stone barn in Pennsylvania. (His 11-part album series based on this undertaking was reissued on Important Records last year.) Levitation Praxis Pt 4, due out tomorrow, documents Lowe's performance on those devices. While Bertoia took a more improvisational approach with the devices, we're told Lowe used a pre-arranged plan that incorporated layers of vocals. His performance is split into two side-long tracks for this DDS release. Watch a 23-minute film, made by video director Johann Rashid for MAD, showing Lowe in action with the sound sculptures.
Tracklist A Untitled B Untitled DDS will release Levitation Praxis Pt 4 on August 11th, 2017.
