  • Benedikt Frey is releasing his debut album, Artificial, on Lovefingers' label ESP Institute. Frey worked on Artificial over a period of two years. The 13-track LP is described as a "genre-twisting odyssey" that's "electronic and rhythm-based, but never reliant on any prescribed instrumentation, arrangement or expectation." It'll come out on double-vinyl and digital formats in September. The album is Frey's second appearance on the Los Angeles-based ESP Institute, after his EP The Lobbyist from last year. Other solo records have seen him on Crème Organization, Live At Robert Johnson and Mule, along with his own Love Pain Sunshine & Rain label. (He also crafted a digital-only LP using the name Suedmilch, back in 2009.) Meanwhile, he's been part of two duos, Vtothed and INIT, the latter project with Nadia D'Alo resulting in an album for Hivern Discs nearly two years ago. Listen to album cut "H For Hysteria."
