  • Jeff Derringer will take a break from performing to fight a relapse of cancer. The news came via a tweet from Derringer in which he revealed he is facing a recurrence of the disease. He'll be undergoing major surgery to remove a tumor and lymph nodes. "I've beaten this dreadful disease once before and I fully intend on doing so again," he says in the note. "I would ask for your positive thoughts and energy while I deal with this setback." Derringer is synonymous with Chicago techno. He's a resident at smartbar, where his Oktave night regularly hosts the genre's leading lights—Ø [Phase], Mike Dehnert and Speedy J have all played the party this year. As far as his own productions, they've come out on respected imprints like the latter's Electric Deluxe, M_REC LTD and Soma Quality Recordings, to name a few. Derringer says he plans to continue on with production projects while undergoing treatment.
