  • A rare Prince cassette is now the most expensive tape ever sold on Discogs. The Versace Experience: Prelude 2 Gold sold for $4087 in August. As the title implies, the 1995 promo album was released in the lead-up to Prince's The Gold Experience LP, in the midst of his The Artist Formerly Known As Prince era when he was feuding with Warner Bros. The tape was given out to attendees of the Versace collection at Paris Fashion Week. It features edits and remixes of tracks from that album, some never released anywhere else, as well as rare or unheard material from Prince-related bands like New Power Generation, Madhouse and The NPG Orchestra. It's not the first time the Purple One has set records on Discogs. Earlier this year, a 1987 promo vinyl copy of his The Black Album sold for $15,000, becoming the most expensive sale on the site.
