- "But it won't happen for at least two years and will it be the same? We don't know."
Carl Cox has hinted that Space Ibiza will reopen at another site, "but not for at least two years."
Cox, who has been a resident at the Playa D'en Bossa club since 2001, revealed the news in an interview with Ticketmaster earlier this week. As well as discussing his own future, he confirmed that "plans are on the table" for a new iteration of the iconic venue, which shuts for good in October. "Will it be the same? We don't know. I don't know whether I will be involved because there are so many variables."
He also shared his thoughts on popular beach club Ushuaïa, whose owners will seize control of the current Space Ibiza site in 2017. "I understand it has a place on the island. You know what you are getting, you know you can jump up and down in the mosh pit and go crazy but it isn't the true ethos of what the island stands for. That is the point that has been missed and that is why plenty of people are upset. Ibiza has turned into the new Vegas of Spain."
Cox has five weeks of his Tuesday night residency still to come, as well as a headline slot at the final closing party on Sunday, October 2nd. He'll be joined at that one by Tale Of Us, Anja Schneider and Darius Syrossian, with more acts still TBA.
