  • London-based producer Rival Consoles has a new mini album on the way for Erased Tapes. Night Melody continues a long-standing relationship between artist and label. Over the past nine years or so, all of Ryan Lee West's original productions as Rival Consoles—which touch on IDM, techno and electronica—have come through Erased Tapes, including three albums and a handful of EPs. This mini album first began to take shape late last year, around the time his Howl LP was issued, as West was coming out of a 13 year-long relationship. He'd find himself working deep into the night on new music throughout the winter months. "This record is very personal to me, and I hope it offers something for other people, as it helped me to make it and to listen to it," says West. "I'm not interested in making something sad or something happy. I want music to be bittersweet, to be more complex, like life—containing moments of vibrant colour and hope, as much as darkness and sadness." Scheduled to land in early August, Night Melody will come on 12-inch vinyl and digital formats, with cover art courtesy of another Londoner, Shaz Madani. Stream "Lone."
