  • iDEAL will put out Mika Vainio's Mannerlaatta soundtrack in August. Vainio, the Sähkö Recordings co-founder, has been working with the Finnish director Mika Taanila for well over a decade. Along with his Pan Sonic partner, Ilpo Väisänen, he received an award for scoring Taanila's 2015 documentary Return Of The Atom. Vainio also scored Taanila's 2002 short, A Physical Ring. For the new film, Mannerlaatta (AKA Tectonic Plate), Taanila says "Mika composed and recorded the music at quite an early stage of the two-and-a-half-year project, so it dominated much of the editing rhythm of the visual narration," in an interview with The Wire. The 74-minute piece was made entirely without a camera, and deals with the fear of flying, security checks and crossing time zones. Watch the trailer for the film, and listen to a piece from Vainio's score, below.
