  • The City of Chicago is throwing a huge, and free, house party downtown in Millennium Park on Saturday, May 28th. It'll be another gathering of house heads at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, the crown jewel of Chicago's outdoor music venues, following an evening event last May. (Pictured here is the nearby promenade and Cloud Gate, the setting for a Frankie Knuckles tribute event two years ago.) Once again, a mix of live groups, singers and DJs—heavy on old-school talent—will hit the stage to celebrate the birthplace of house. This time the party will run twice as long, from 3 PM to 9 PM. Heading up the program is The House Legacy Project, a full band with horns and singers, that will feature the likes of Byron Stingily, who's topped charts both as a member of Ten City and as a solo artist, Dajae, a prominent voice on Cajual Records (she's collaborated with Cajmere for more than two decades) and Lidell Townsell. Peven Everett and the Vick Lavender Ensemble round out the live lineup. DJ sets are due to come from Joe Smooth, Steve "Miggedy" Maestro and Superjane's DJ Heather and Lady D. Dana Divine, of the local WGCI 107.5 radio station, will serve as the host.
