  • Jorge Velez will release Animals Disk via L.I.E.S. later this March. The prolific artist formerly known as Professor Genius has dropped a stockpile of stylistically varied tracks under his given name. The new one is made up of five animal-themed experiments recorded using only samples of the classic Fairlight CMI synthesizer and the new school MicroBrute machine. Rush Hour says Animals Disk displays "a melodic side to his sound previously not present in other works," aiming to lull the listener into "a dream world of digi-nature, electronic bird chips and 8-bit waterfalls." Last year, Velez launched his archival label, Templo Recordings, an outlet that's already seen seven releases, leading RA's Andrew Ryce to call this period the "most fruitful phase of his career," in his review of Neptune.
