  • The debut From Berlin To LA festival goes down in the latter city on February 5th and 6th. The festival is being put on by the Berlin-based Your Mom's Agency and the Goethe-Institut Los Angeles, and brings artists from both cities together for workshops, live shows and parties. On Friday afternoon at the Goethe-Institut, Native Instruments will host a mixing demonstration using its new audio format, Stems. In addition, Berlin-based artist Lucky Paul will show attendees how to build a synthesizer from scratch. Later, he'll lead a group in a live improvisation during a screening of 1927 film Berlin: Symphony of a Great City. At 8 PM, Berlin-to-LA transplant (and Monkeytown Records artist) Robot Koch will perform a live show with a full band at the historic Villa Aurora mansion. He'll also play at an afterparty at the The Standard Hotel in West Hollywood, alongside Anna Cavazos and Mor Elian. The next afternoon's Goethe-Institut programming focuses on family-friendly fare. Perera Elsewhere will speak on digital production for teens and adults, and Grimy label boss Zernell (and his son Zernell Jr.) will run through the basics of vinyl digging and DJing. There will also be a Spanish language production workshop. That evening, Bold Space DT hosts panel discussions on the Berlin scene, which are followed by a party on the rooftop of the Ace Hotel with Kim Anh, Perera Elsewhere and rising local jock Masha. All events are free, but registration is required. Check out full lineup information in the event listing below.
