  • The first annual Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival will go down in central Florida from March 4th through the 6th. Taking place at Sunshine Grove, an area of open fields, woodlands and lakes about ten miles north of Okeechobee (the city), the weekend camping event is a new endeavor presented by Soundslinger, a production team with members who've been involved in large-scale festivals like Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee and San Francisco's Outside Lands. The program at this one, spread across five stages, has a similar focus on rock, hip hop and electronic—pretty much in that order. Mumford & Sons, Kendrick Lamar and Skrillex get top billing, with the likes of Ween, Robert Plant and Lotus confirmed as well. A sizable group of house and techno talent is on the lineup, too, and intriguingly, much of it is billed on an all-night stage called Jungle 51. Detroit's Derrick May and Delano Smith will DJ together, while Ostgut Ton affiliates Virginia and Marcel Fengler and Crosstown Rebels boss Damian Lazarus are set to join the action. Further highlights at the stage include Voiski, AntonZap, John Acquaviva and rRoxymore. Related offerings elsewhere at the festival include Ninja Tune's Bonobo, Bay Area fixture Solar and Wolf+Lamb affiliates Life on Planets, with the latter two playing the dawn-to-dusk Aquachobee Beach stage.
