  • Buraka Som Sistema will play three US dates in April before going on a break for the foreseeable future. The Lisbon-based live act is synonymous with Angolan kuduro music, which they helped introduce to international audiences beginning in the mid-2000s. In August they announced via Facebook that they'd be going on "indefinite hiatus" following one last round of shows in Europe and the US. "We’ve reached a moment in which we need to stop, take a breath and have time for other projects," they explained. "It’s been 10 years of intense activity out of which came two EPs, three albums, dozens of singles and more than 800 shows all over the world... [The tour] will not only celebrate our 10th anniversary but also close the cycle of existence of Buraka Som Sistema." Founder Branko, AKA João Barbosa, will continue releasing music through his own Enchufada label. They will land in the US in April following the last dates of their final European tour. The stateside leg begins in LA on April 7th, followed by SF's 1015 Folsom on the 8th and NYC for Webster Hall the following night.
