  • Detroit's 10th annual Backpack Music Festival is set to take place next Saturday, July 11th. SCP—a nonprofit devoted to providing backpacks and school supplies to students in need—is the host of the family-oriented, day-long event, and this year it'll happen at Michigan State University's Detroit Center. The music program, heavy on locals, will feature sets from globe-trotting jock Terrence Parker (who will have just finished a quick tour of Japan), Gerald Mitchell of Los Hermanos and Underground Resistance, Aux 88's Keith Tucker and Brazil-based Mustafa. Derrick Thompson (AKA Drivetrain), Stacey 'Hotwaxx' Hale and Big Rob Martinez Jr are also confirmed. The festival will also have a stage devoted to children's performances and a bunch of kid-friendly activities, including music and art workshops. Attendees are encouraged to bring school supplies to donate.
